Funding from New State Budget Invested in 27 Pensylvania Companies
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 26, 2009
Twenty-seven emerging, tech-based businesses located in the footprint serviced by Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Central and Northern Pennsylvania were especially happy to hear that a new state budget was passed. Ben Franklin’s funding, a line item in the Governor’s budget, has been utilized for more than a quarter century to help emerging, tech-based companies and manufacturers prove out new technology, hire additional staff and increase their sales/marketing efforts in order to grow and compete in their respective markets. For information on the program and how to apply see www.cnp.benfranklin.org .
Ben Franklin’s Board of Directors also approved investments for eight energy-related translational research projects soon to be underway at three Pennsylvania universities – Penn State, Gannon, and Clarion. The research to be conducted at the universities involves the gasification of glycerin, use of electrolytes in fuel cells, transforming biomass to liquid fuel, developing high-surface area heat exchangers, storage of solar heating, new forms of compost, and several projects that surround converting high value crops into viable forms of fuel. For information on the research projects, contact Brian Krier at dbk131@psu.edu.
